About
AOMD was established by Michael Dillon in 2022. The studio engages primarily with designing contemporary rural architecture; we recognise that too many of today’s new buildings feel disconnected from our rich architectural heritage. Underlying this disconnection is a deeper lack of vision for the future of rural living.
We perfectly balance the modern and the timeless. Through a deep passion for local tradition and form, we’re creating a fresh new rural architecture that feels both current and enduring.
Our considered approach results in buildings that are grounded, thoughtful, and built to last. We are quietly shaping the future through our vision for better rural design and living.
Prior to setting up AOMD, Michael worked for ten years at Mæ architects. His last completed building, Sands End Arts and Community Centre, was shortlisted for the 2022 RIBA Stirling Prize. It was voted London’s Building of the Year by the Royal Institute of British Architects alongside winning a RIBA national award.
Our practice
AOMD practice from our studios in the rural landscape of the Weald and in Tunbridge Wells. We offer our varied clients a personalised and hands-on experience. On all projects we work in physical models and hand drawings to walk clients through the emerging designs to make spaces and building placement tactile and recognisable.
Teaching and Research
Michael teaches postgraduate level at the University of Cambridge and London Metropolitan University. Michael is a specialist design panellist for Design South East and is an examiner for the Architects Registration Board.
